  • I've made all the postcard images about 50% bigger so you can see more detail in them.

  • Also, there are lots of addtions to the Photo section, including the 1965 Bish rugby team, the Bish 1981 Leaving Cert class, and great historical aerial shots of Wellpark.

  • Postcards of the Hangar, Claddagh Church, and Eyre Square (amongst others). Remember, I'm always adding postcard images, so check back every now and then to see what's new.

  • The 1983 Salerno magazine, SOS!

  • The 1986 edition of Blueprint, from Taylor's Hill school!

Postcard Nostalgia from The City of the Tribes

Welcome to Old Galway Pics, a site devoted to images of Galway from years gone by. Mostly, it's a means of archiving and displaying the collection of postcards I've put together - mostly from the early 1900's.

Many things in Galway have changed dramatically since 1900, which was the golden age of postcards, while some look virtually identical despite decades of elapsed time.

I've also got a secondary interest in Oughterard (where my grandmother came from), so there are a few images from there too, although they may be a bit more obscure for some people.

Some of the images are regular photos, not taken from postcards, although some of them do appear on postcards too.

Other Stuff of Possible Interest...

I realise, of course, that not everyone has a fascination for the photographic record of early 20th century Galway, and from the perspective of my age cohort, the scans of some old Bish Bombshells (and other school magazines) from the 1980's will be a far more attractive proposition.

If anyone has anything they think might be useful for putting on these pages (photos, pictures, news, etc. ) then please contact me! I'd love to hear from you, and I'll do whatever I can to help.
