Class of 1988: Joint Pres-Bish 20-Year Reunion! What is it? A combined reunion for the Bish and Pres classes of 1988! Given that it is now 20 years since we left school, we thought it would be a great time to get together again, meet old friends, swaps stories, and catch up on where everyone is and what they're doing. You’ll never see the likes of it again. It will be an informal affair, and we want to make everyone feel as relaxed as possible. So it won't be a traumatic re-hash of the Debs, when your 'beau' showed up an hour late, blind drunk in front of your mother, and without a flower; or you got ditched by your girlfriend at the end of the night and you found out afterwards she shifted your best buddy. It’ll be more like a Bish Disco with food… and drinks …and lights! When and where will it be?
It will be in the Radisson Hotel in Galway on Saturday 21st February 2009 at 7.30PM! (There are several big rugby matches on around then, so we've managed to avoid them and any other major event we can think of. You wouldn't believe how difficult it was to get that date...) We'll give more details of the time, and other information as we get it. How much will it cost? Tickets are €50 each. Please try to pay as soon as possible, as we'll need to give final attendance figures to the Radisson in advance!
What do I get for my money? Well, we want to be totally transparent on all the money side of things - we don't want to be defending ourselves for the rest of our days with Father Ted style "But that money was just resting in my account!" apologies! So, in the interests of clarity, this is the breakdown: | Drinks reception | €8 | | Buffet meal | €25 | | Wine with meal | €5 | | Credit card & FX charges | €1 | | Bar Extension | €5 | | Printing & Decorations | €1 | | Contingency* | €5 | | Total | €50 |
*What is the 'Contingency' figure of €5 to magically make it add up to €50? Well, we may have to pay for the DJ, depending on the turnout - that's one thing we need to allow for. We'd like to have some prizes or raffles on the night, and while we are hoping to be able to get sponsorship for a lot of this, we may need some money to help if there is a shortfall. If we know before the night exactly how much money we have 'left over', we could put some of it behind the bar for some more drinks. Finally we could donate whatever is left to a local charity. (If we do have any surplus please feel free to suggest a worthwhile cause.) How Do I Pay? (In Order of Preference...) Method 1: Call in to Corless Formalwear at 64 Dominick Street, Galway, and the very approachable Mike Corless will take your name and money, and issue you with a receipt. If you live in Galway, or have friends or family there, then this is the easiest thing to do. Method 2: Send a cheque for €50 to Mike (or any of us), payable to the "Bish/Pres Reunion 2008" account. Remember to give us your name, address and email/phone with your payment so we can sent you an email/text receipt. Method 3:
Click on the PayPal 'Pay Now' button below and pay by credit card. The button will bring you to a secure PayPal page, where you simply enter your credit card details, and you'll automatically be emailed a receipt.
We have to absorb handling and currency exchange charges of about €4 on every ticket sold this way, so if you can, then please use method 1 or 2 above! For those of you outside Galway though, it's probably the easiest, or maybe even the only, way for you to pay. (Several people have paid safely using this method already, and you shouldn't need a PayPal account.) If you cannot pay by any of these means, then give any of us a call (or email) and we'll try and sort something out for you.
However you pay, you'll get a receipt, and we will have a list of names to use at the door of the reception. It's best if you bring the receipt with you to be on the safe side.
Who's going? Everyone's going of course! Well, we'd like everyone to come along, although we realise it'll be difficult as some people (especially the Bish lads) are spread far and wide across the globe. We are trying to track down everyone right now, and we could always use some help. If you know where someone is, please call them and let them know about the reunion and this web page. If you meet someone in the street, just tell them to Google "Bish Bombshell", and this website the first thing they'll see. The list of names at the bottom of this page will be updated as people pay us.
95 people have already paid. (See names list below.)
I’m a bit shy - should I go? If you don’t go, you’ll never know what you missed. You might have a great time! If you are currently unattached, you might meet someone similarly single - stranger things have happened… There are bound to be a few people you’d like to talk to again after all these years, no matter how quiet you were back in 1988. And if you don’t enjoy yourself, you can always leave early, claiming to have to put the kids to bed or something. Why a joint reunion? A few of us had already discussed the possibility of having a Bish reunion, and by chance we were contacted by Kara who said they were thinking of putting together theirs, and so the idea of a joint reunion came up. It seems like a great way to pool our resources, and seeing as we did the joint production of HMS Pinafore (and we were around the corner) we would know at least some of the other school's guys and gals. Hopefully it will reduce the effort and costs involved when we can share venue hire, etc. It’d be a sad day indeed when a Bish guy can’t buy a drink for a Pres girl…
I want to go! Who do I talk to? Well, the simplest way is to leave a message here, using the form below.
You can also contact any of the organisers directly if you'd prefer, and you may want to note some of our details for future reference. Sorry, I can’t go. I’m in the middle of a life-and-death situation! Well, at least leave us your contact details below so we can talk to you, and send you on some photos afterwards! Are you sure you can’t go? Is it really life-and-death? I want to help - what can I do? Call any of us, and we'll find plenty for you to do! Looking forward to seeing you there! Best wishes, Kara, Alison, Deirdre, Helen, Janette, Philip, Paul, Mike C., Mike G. and Ronan
FAQ
Can I bring a partner? If you want to, then do - they'll be made to feel more than welcome. I’m sure you’d have more time to mingle and talk about old times if you came on your own though. Also, your significant other might feel a bit left out with the in-jokes and meaningless school references. Do what you feel comfortable with.
What do I wear? It is a school reunion, not a Debs, job interview or Nobel-prize ceremony. You are meeting your friends. Smart-casual should do. Helen Delargy's suggested "SATC"-casual, whatever that means... And if Ronan Quigley wants to wear his school uniform, then we won’t stop him. (Mike Corless sells them, if you want one!)
I have not done anything interesting in the last 20 years / My name is now Clarice, not Charles / I breed hedgehogs for a living / I am one of Mother Earth’s children / I have body odour. All are welcome. Use some deodorant before turning up though, eh?
How will I recognise anyone? Will they recognise me? Appearances change and memories fade, but if you refresh your memory by looking at some of the old school magazines, and associate names with faces, it might be a bit easier. We can give you a name badge if you like.
Will Revelation reprise the infamous Nov ’87 Bish Disco gig at it? No. You’ve a better chance of getting the Beatles back on stage. And two of them are dead.
How can I keep in contact with everyone afterwards?
We’ll ask everyone if they’re happy for us to add their details to a list to distribute. There are also two Facebook groups, one for each school's Leaving Cert 1988 class.
