c1900: Image of the many-named 'Jail Bridge', taken on pathway usually used by anglers.
c1905: View of the Salmon Weir bridge with Fr. Daly's Chapel on the right hand side, taken from Newtownsmith.
Note the smoke-stack in the background.
(Bizarrely, this card was only posted in 1966, over 60 years after printing.)
1903: Unusual view taken from the weir itself, with Waterside on the left, and the Fisheries House on the right.
1929: A very uncommon view of the salmon race by the weir, with the old Clifden railway in the background.
c1905: The railway viaduct. In the distance under the leftmost span you can see signs of industry on the river!
There were many mills and distilleries on the river, and a jute factory opposite Menlo.
c1900: A similar view of the viaduct and weir.
c1935: A similar, if more gaudily colourised, image of spectators on the "Jail Bridge".
It's a pity the Gaol itself never featured on a postcard! (Actually there were two - both a City and County Gaol.)
1960s: A very staged picture - what on earth are they all looking at? There's nothing there!

c1910: Judging by the crowd on the bridge, there are obviously a lot of fish in the river.
c1920: The building with the four windows in a square has the words "Motor Garage" painted on the side.
c1905: A nice image of anglers and the weir, with some distinctive local architecture on Waterside.
c1908: Look at the house, and note its size and colour.
c1920: They've had an extension and a lick of paint. The railway bridge was removed a few years later...
c1950: By this stage, the Clifden railway bridge had been dismantled, and sold for scrap in 1935.
c1905: Old vignette-style card.
c1900: Slightly to the left of the previous image, taking in the court house.
A smoke stack is visible on the right where the Mercy Convent secondary school is today.
1960: Much more recent view, with the courthouse/county library on the left, and Mercy Convent (Fr. Daly's Chapel) on the right.
1960s: Boat-hire at Waterside in Woodquay.
1940s: Picture taken from Waterside. The railway bridge has been removed by this time.
