c1900: A nice image of an old man resting on the Prom.

c1900: Tram terminus opposite Eglinton Hotel on far left. The other end of the line was in Forster St.
The white building is now Lonergan's, and next door Killoran's.

1906: A very similar view, but with a lot more activity.
You can just make out the "Spirits & Wine" sign on the left of the Eglinton.

c1905: Taken further back, and to the right, with an inquisitive boy staring at the photographer in the foreground.

1958: A much later image, but still a time when there were buildings on the right-hand side of the road.

c1958: The Pavilion Gardens, home to the famous Hangar. It was the place to be seen for young Galwegians in the 50s and 60s.

c1960: A familiar view of Salthill. Leisureland and the large new Galway Bay Hotel are absent.

c1900: Another tram terminus view taken from the beach. Most of the foreground is now a reclaimed carpark.

c1910: Further towards Salthill village, with Kenny's grocer on the left.
The buildings on the right included a bath house, and are now occupied by Seapoint.
The Prom extension to Grattan Road did not exist until much, much later.

c1960: Before the massive Galway Bay Hotel and Leisureland dominated the background.

c1925: Ladies taking the air along the Prom.

1929: Card from the same series, taken from a bit further along the Prom, but facing back towards Salthill.

1905: An earlier shot from almost the same spot. Edwardian clothes though, and no cars.
Note the woman with the bucket in the foreground, probably selling shellfish or mackerel.

c1950: Home to the famous Twiggs nightclub in the 1970s, and now a hostel.

1940s: Photo of Salthill from Grattan Road.

1949: A colourised version of the previous card.

1925: You don't see many straw boaters on the Prom these days.

1925: Reverse of previous card.
It is amazing how many postcard correspondents write about dreadful weather in Galway and Salthill...

c1950: Multi-view card showing the church and the wide road after the Eglinton.

1962: A fresh-looking day at the seaside!

c1950: Busy day on the Prom - it's obviously summer, but no swimsuits to be seen here! Unless an overcoat counts as beachwear?

1961: This is where you kick the wall at the end of the Prom.

1930s?: The splendid Lenaboy Castle on an 11-acre site at the junction of Taylor's Hill and Rosary Lane.
Originally owned by Capt. James O'Hara, and taken over by the Sisters of Mercy in the 1920s.
Most recently the subject of a highly contentious planning application.
