1905: Ceremony of some kind. Note the tower does not have a clock.
As the clock was installed in 1898, this photo was taken several years before the postcard was sent.
1907: A colourised and cropped version of the previous card.
The colour makes it more obvious there is a military band playing on the right hand side.
Still no clock - hence this photo was also taken in the mid 1890s.
1908: Move on a few years, and there is a nice new clock, and you can see the growth of the tree at the front.
1929: Very similar scene, posted over 20 years later.
c1910: A quieter than usual scene in this shot of St. Nicholas'.
(This is one of a few Galway postcards with a rather gaudy sticker-like coat of arms printed on it in the lower-right corner.)
c1910: The old St. Patrick's Church on Forster Street, before the upper portion of the steeple was removed for safety reasons.
(My grandfather was born in a house in St Patrick's Avenue, which runs from the left of the church to Eyre Square.)
1919: Another view of St. Patrick's Church, with some local children eager to have their photo taken!
c1910: The elegantly proportioned Dominican Church in the Claddagh.
c1905: Another view of the Claddagh Church, probably a few years before the previous one (the building behind was enlarged).
The figure on the right is wearing a traditional Claddagh fisherman's hat.
c1905: The previous card was a crop of the left-hand side of this wonderfully detailed image.
c1900: The Dominican Church and the old Piscatorial School.
There may have been a fisherman on the roof, but it was a
regular primary school be the time this card was made.
1958: Promotional card to raise funds for the Cathedral, which replaced the old Pro-Cathedral in Middle Street .
1911: Jesuit Church on Sea Road.
c1910: Another view of the Jes Church.
1940s: The Abbey Church when there were still trees on St. Francis Street, and railings ouside.
1920s: St. Nicholas' Church from Market Street, probably taken from the top of the Old Mon school.
